Summary
In Karditsa, from 20 to 26 June, the heart of culture and tradition will be beating as everything is ready for the 54th edition of the festival.
η International Cultural Festival Karaiskakeia organized by the Union of Cultural Associations of Karditsa, in co-organization with the Region of Thessaly - Regional Unit of Karditsa, the Regional Union of Municipalities of Thessaly, the Municipality of Karditsa, the Chamber of Karditsa and with the support of the Holy Metropolis of Thessaliotis and Fanariofersalon.
After two years of absence, due to a pandemic, this leading cultural event is preparing to raise the curtain again, with a programme worthy of the prestige of the institution, which is the longest of its kind.
This year's Celebration is dedicated to the 100 years since the Asia Minor Catastrophe and will be kicked off with a special
performance entitled "To see freely the native land..." by the Folklore Club "KARAGOUNA"...
Participants include renowned dance groups from four countries (Mexico, Ireland, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Ireland, Bulgaria), eleven from Greece and sixteen local dance groups.
Thirty-one dance groups with about 1,000 dancers will appear on the stage of Karaiskakiia, in front of the imposing statue of the hero Georgios Karaiskakis in the central square of Karditsa, presenting dances and songs of their regions and sending the message that culture is the only thing that can unite.
The events will start every evening at 21:00, while performances will take place daily in almost all the other municipalities of the Prefecture, giving the opportunity to every Karditsian to take an active part in this special cultural event.
For a week, the Prefecture of Karditsa is expected to be at the center of national, and not only, interest, through a multifaceted institution.

The opening of the Karaiskakia (on Monday 20 June) will take place with the
Performance entitled "To see freely the native land..." by the Folklore Club of Karditsa "KARAGOUNA" which is dedicated to the memory of Mary Theologis.
Greece, as a source of culture, exploits the heritage left by its historical past.
Honouring our history and our ancestors, a "journey" through time and the history of the Greek Nation will take place with the accompaniment of song, music and dance in order to create an imaginary "bridge" with the past of our Nation.

The Creative Theatre Workshop "Opsis" participates
This will be preceded by a tribute to Mary Theologis which will include a video-speech about her life and work and then the Union of Cultural Associations will award a member of the Theologis family with a plaque of honour for her contribution to culture.
