Theatrical Workshop of the Cultural Events Organisation - Polyphonic Choir of Patras

Friday 22 March 2024 - Time 8.30pm.

The Theatrical Workshop of "POLYPHONIKIS" was born in 2005, as a need to broaden the artistic pursuits of the Organization, especially towards the Theatrical Act. The director Dimitris Siountas, took over the direction of the department and thus came about ''The Simigdalenios'', a play by Alexandros Adamopoulos. In September 2008 the Theatrical Workshop was taken over by the teacher Yannis Vlachos.
In September 2010, the teacher, director and playwright Athina Kallimani, reorganized the "Workshop", with classes for underage children and adults. A group of people, since 2010, have met and continue to meet in the THEATRE WORKSHOP of ''POLYPHONIKI''. Unknown to each other. Different ages, different starting points and personalities. But they are all there... Common desires and needs created this theatrical group.
It happened simply, naturally, but also impulsively, as any company is born and breathes. It is an experiment - in progress - that softens vanity and heals the wounds of frustration, "like any relationship that works", "a place for stray dreams to blossom". And the question always arises: Why is this happening?
The team itself gives the answer: ''Because we love the streets, the challenges, the movement, the experiences, the magic and the ephemeral. Because we feel the need to express ourselves, to get out of our entrenched microcosms and become part of a collective expression. Because we believe that art is the white cane for walking in an absurd society. We are not actors. We are a company. Who reach out to our fellow man and call out to him: "Life is movement, effort, struggle. Fight.... Otherwise life will become a movie and we will be tired spectators of a foreign story."

Two words about the performance

An anti-war romp, a parody of war. An unapologetic satirical traditional theatre genre, derived from the "Speeches" of Zakynthos, written and performed in Zakynthos during the Venetian period (mid-17th century) by amateur actors from the ranks of the people.
"A great war is raging
for the beautiful Helen
Pointing a finger at us
the whole world".
